This is a workshop for people who would like to learn how to be more comfortable in their bodies, people who would like to move with more ease and grace, have greater flexibility, mobility and coordination, less stiffness and tension. 

 

As a former chronically stiff person, I have spent most of my life trying to overcome my stiff and painful body. I have spent more than 30 years doing yoga, martial arts, calisthenics, and various adventure sports in order to overcome a dark and sedentary childhood. I had numerous postural problems that kept me feeling like I was living in a steel cage. The only time I felt relaxed was in a state of exhaustion and I was told that “some people are just naturally stiff”, and that was how it was going to be. It was only in the last 10 years that things began to change, and in my 60’s I began to become more flexible and mobile, for the first time ever. A lot of this transformation came from a new understanding of how the muscles and connective tissues in the body actually work.

The old model of exercise that had been taught in the West is inaccurate. We are not a collection of parts, muscles and bones, arms and legs, but we are completely connected through the myofascial system of muscles and connective tissues. Where for example, our hips are connected to our shoulders and stiffness in the neck can originate in the soles of our feet. I also learned that the mind and emotions play a large role in this and that many of our physical problems are the result of stress and tension leaving us with an inability to relax. 

 

Often people who teach yoga, martial arts and fitness don’t have personal experience with chronic tension and stiffness. In my own personal experience, they haven’t been much help. A lot of my current understanding comes from my Qigong practice, and Master Liu Deming, my teacher of the last 4 years, but the methods I teach, are my own, drawn from ancient and modern techniques such as Hatha Yoga, martial arts movement, traditional Chinese exercise, somatic movement, PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), and other modalities. 

If you have gotten injured, discouraged, or frustrated in the gym or at yoga classes where you feel that everyone in the room is more flexible than you, this workshop will teach you how to: 

  • Re-establish the body-mind connection, through somatic movement.
  • Increase your range of motion with slow gentle movements.
  • Stretch more effectively with less effort to increase your flexibility. 
  • Understand that relaxation is an alive and embodied state.
  • Learn to stop being at the mercy of reactive emotions.

 

This workshop is more a method and approach to exercise, than a prescribed set of movements, to enrich your life and to undo tension and combat stress.

50% cancellation fee if cancellation occurs within a week before the event. 
Other than that no cancellation fee is necessary other than what PayPal would take in service fees.
